Marc Goergen 1

Professor Marc Goergen

Marc Goergen is a full Professor of Finance at IE University. Previous appointments include UMIST and the Universities of Cardiff, Manchester, Reading and Sheffield. Marc is a Research Member of the prestigious European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and a former member of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).
Marc is an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Management, the British Accounting Review and the European Journal of Finance. He is also an Editorial Board Member of various other journals. Previously, he also served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Corporate Finance and the Journal of Banking and Finance. He has published widely on corporate governance and finance in academic journals, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Industrial Relations, and the Journal of Law, Economics, & Organization. He is also the author of three research monographs as well as a successful textbook on corporate governance.

Professor Richard Payne

Richard Payne is a full Professor of Finance at Bayes Business School. Professor Payne works in the areas of empirical market microstructure and empirical asset pricing. He has written on topics that include the determination of exchange rates, the links between exchange rates and equity index returns, algorithmic trading and market dynamics, the effects of transparency in equity markets and the effects of short selling on equity markets.
Professor Payne holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and has worked at the LSE, the University of Bristol and Warwick Business School. He has also worked in the asset management industry and actively consults for banks, funds, regulators and government departments.

Submission and registration information

Submission (Extended Abstract/Full Manuscript)

Please submit your extended abstract (minimum 5 pages) or your full manuscript (maximum 50 pages) in PDF format at www.fba-conference.com, using the 'Submission' button on the right hand side. Use Times New Roman 12-point font (1.5 spaced).

Each submission should contain:

  • Title

  • Authors and their full affiliations (presenter indicated in boldface)

  • Short abstract (max 250 words)

The submission deadline is 1st May 2024.

Authors will be informed of the outcome of their submission within 10 working days.

Registration Fees

Registration opens on 5th December 2023.

Register by purchasing a “Registration Ticket” through Eventbrite:

  • Early bird rate: £450 (available until midnight UK time, 29th February 2024)

  • Standard rate: £500 (available from 1st March 2024)

  • Student early bird rate: £400 (available until midnight UK time, 29th February 2024)

  • Student standard rate: £450 (available from 1st March 2024)

  • Accompanying person rate: £150 (this fee is intended for the person who wants to accompany a participant to the conference gala dinner but will not participate in the scientific programme). If this applies to you, please purchase the relevant ticket at Eventbrite.

The fee includes refreshments, lunches (two days), and the conference gala dinner – further updates to follow.

The deadline for registration to present accepted research works is 8th May 2024.

All participants, including presenters, are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

For a paper to be listed in the conference programme, payment from at least one author is required by 8th May 2024. Participants who withdraw before 8th May 2024 will be refunded, subject to a cancellation fee of £200. Participants who cancel after 8th May 2024 will not receive a refund. European Financial Management

The conference organisers, in liaison with the Editor of the European Financial Management, invite conference participants to submit high-quality papers, falling within the remit of the journal, to the special issue “Finance and Business Analytics”. The standard submission process of the journal will apply.

The European Journal of Finance

The conference organisers and the Editors of The European Journal of Finance encourage conference participants to submit high-quality papers that focus on machine learning and big data in Finance. The standard submission process of the journal will apply, and authors are expected to specify that their manuscript is intended for the special issue “Machine Learning & Big Data in Finance”.
